more on the cupping
24th of April - Saturday - 8am to noon...
prizes in the drawing include all sorts of excellent Intelligentsia gear, coffee, cool treats and a special grand prize. it's gonna be fun!
today was busy. fun, but busy. lots of the usual suspects plus some passers-through.
coffee was good. tasted a nice Kenya Peaberry - a bit "simple" (one note - fruit) but still nice. the espresso was pulling quite well indeed.
mood - hectic
music - all Al Green, all the time
coffees - House Blend, Sumatra
special - double ristretto shot

back in the saddle again...
it was nice to be home - pulling good shots, talking smack... good times.
the espresso was good today. more balanced than yesterday (when the dark chocolate seemed to be running away with the Black Cat, turning it even more "single note" than usual). i poured a couple very very nice bits of Latte Art. quite satisfying.
we're gearing up for the coffee tasting on Saturday the 24th of April. it's all very exciting. good coffees, cool prizes... nice!
right now the coffee list looks like:
Kenya
Yemen Mocha
Tanzanian Peaberry
Red Sea Blend
Sumatra Mandheling
New Guinea
Colombia Reserva del Patron
Costa Rica El Conquistador
Guatemala El Cuervo
Nicaragua Flor Azul
Mexico La Perla de Oaxaca
El Salvador Los Immortales
very cool!!! 5 bucks gets you all the coffee you can taste and an entry into the prize drawings. be there! 8am.
mood - smooth and lovely
music - Augustus Pablo
coffees - House Blend, New Guinea
special - triple cortado

the hinterlands...
i just returned from Utah and all i have to say is...
"People! People! At least try to make good espresso!!!"
i can't tell you how many machines i saw with filthy portafilters sitting out of the group on the countertop - how many crud encrusted steam wands, untamped portafilters filled with aged and preground horrid dark roast coffee... my god! i saw a place serving 24oz single shot cappuccinos!!!
it makes me despair.
no wonder people think Starbucks is good coffee. i'm absolutely certain Starbucks would taste divine compared to the swill served by any of the independent coffee shops i saw in Utah.
rule of thumb... if you can't make espresso that is better than what someone can get at Starbucks you shouldn't be in business. period. end of story.
i'm so glad to be back...
oh - the Linea has been descaled. hurrah!
